  • AP retains editorial control and direction
  • AP says it is meeting reader demand

FanDuel Group, which is part of the Flutter Entertainment plc empire, and The Associated Press have inked a deal to make FanDuel the exclusive provider of sports odds across AP’s global sports report.

Under the terms of the agreement, which is already live across AP channels and is slated for several years, FanDuel Sportsbook odds will appear in AP’s daily sports odds fixtures, game previews, and other sports stories where odds are mentioned.

Editorial control

AP is keen to stress it retains editorial control of all content and that the FanDuel contribution is purely data-driven.

The parties will also work together to integrate FanDuel widgets across the sports pages of APNews.com, plus send out selected FanDuel content across the AP wire.

Associated Press reports are used by media outlets worldwide, but it is unclear as yet how, or if, the odds widgets will be available for use by third parties.

Barry Bedlan, AP global director of text and new market products, said: “As sports betting becomes more commonplace, our customers are increasingly asking for this kind of information

“It makes sense to work with one of the largest reputable sportsbooks in the United States to provide a consistent, credible reference point for AP and its customers.”

Adam Kaplan, FanDuel’s general manager and vice president of content, added: “AP is a globally recognized leader in trusted news, making them the ideal source for us to disseminate our industry-leading sportsbook’s proprietary odds and content.”

FanDuel CEO

The news comes just weeks after it was revealed FanDuel CEO Matt King was leading his post after four years of leading the company.

At the time, a statement from Flutter praised his work, stating: “Matt has overseen the transformation of the business from online daily fantasy sports operator to the market leader in US online sports betting and gaming.”

King explained: “It has been a privilege to lead FanDuel over the last four years through what has been an incredibly exciting period for the company.

“With FanDuel well positioned for the next chapter of its growth and always an entrepreneur at heart, now is the time for me to take on new opportunities as the next step in my career.”
